Sometimes a thread can become worn or damaged and will need to be repaired with a time-sert or helicoil. The old thread is drilled out, the new hole is re-threaded and a time-sert wound in to make the correct size again. We carry all the popular sizes and have fixed everything from engine parts to shower fitting!
The engine will be completely stripped down and washed before being inspected to see what parts are within tolerance. After inspection everything gets put into a cold acid bath so all oil and water ways are clean and free from debris, especially if the engine is badly damaged due to something like an oil pump failure.
After cleaning the block is rebored/honed and the crankshaft reground/polished, with new pistons and bearings being ordered to suit. The cylinder head is pressure tested, skimmed with valves faces and valve seats re-cut.
It is then all re-assembled using new gaskets, oil seals and oil pump. All engines come with a new timing belt or timing chain kit fitted. Upon completion is sprayed to make it look as good as new again!
There are many reasons a car could need a rebore, oil/water starvation or even just high mileage.
Whatever the reason the solution is very simple rebore the cylinder block and fit oversized pistons.
The reboring process gets rid of the damaged and worn surfaces, once it is rebored it is then honed to finish.
If your vehicle develops a knocking from the bottom end then the crankshaft will need to be reground and matched with the correct sized bearings.
Our machine grinds away all the damaged metal to reveal the good metal underneath, once it is ground to an oversize it is then micro polished to finish to make the crank as good as new again.
